At Academic Associates Learning Center, we provide a systematic and explicit reading program for students of all ages and abilities. What students learn in this program is the result of original research and development. Included in our reading programs are the five components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This program touches on all the sounds, rules, and processes of reading beginning with word attack skills and progressively encompassing comprehension and proper reading habits.

We have two locations, including one in Mesquite, Texas, where students are taught one on one by qualified and patient instructors. In addition to having teaching certifications and experience, all of our educators complete an in-depth training to become a reading specialist for our reading programs. Students are offered immediate feedback and provided with tools to help them succeed. One of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing our students’ confidence grow as they begin to develop the skills to attack new words and find meaning in what they read.

Early Readers
We ask that students meet with teachers at least twice a week for an hour each time. Your child’s age, needs, abilities, etc., influence what the focus of our hour will be. For emergent readers, more emphasis may be placed on phonemic awareness, learning letters, and the alphabetic principle. The goal is to give each child a firm foundation in phonics instruction to prepare them to read on their own. Our brains are not wired to read, but with careful instruction, we can watch as our students’ reading abilities bloom.
Reading
Because learning to read is so complex, there can be many gaps or areas of struggle that occur during the process. We promise to provide each student with the skills to become successful readers and overcome those barriers. As students begin to sound out and decode words, they will simultaneously be taught strategies for understanding what they’ve read. One way we monitor that growth is through a variety of FREE assessments. We are proud to say that we typically see results within 40 to 60 hours of instruction.
