It is very common to find children in classrooms that struggle with learning and grasping simple or complex concepts. Though they might not have the official diagnosis, this struggle may be caused by learning disabilities. Here are three misconceptions about those with learning disabilities.

3 Common Misconceptions about Those with Learning Disabilities

  1. They’re not making the effort: Children who have trouble following instructions, understanding math concepts, or recognizing or reading words may seem like they are simply not making the effort to do the work in school and get good grades. This is often untrue when it comes to those with learning disabilities. It’s more often due to an unrecognized condition, like dyslexia, ADHD, or another learning disability that they don’t know how to control.
  1. Success is impossible: Especially from the student’s perspective, it may seem that success for those with learning disabilities is impossible. This is another misconception that doesn’t have to be true. While they may not achieve success the same way as their peers, they can succeed in their own way when they receive the right support and learning techniques.
  1. They all need the same support: It might also be believed that those with learning disabilities require the same support, but this is, once again, not true. Each child will learn differently and have different needs for support, whether they have learning disabilities or not. That’s why we at Academic Associates Learning Center provide one-on-one instruction with any of our learning or tutoring programs and always tailor our methods and support to the child’s needs to achieve academic success.
