We can help your child perform at the appropriate reading level.
Developmental reading is the process of acquiring reading skills and then improving them during early childhood and into adulthood. Developmental reading requires the progressive growth of reading abilities and the acquisition of strategies to comprehend and analyze different forms of written text.
During the years of early childhood, developmental reading focuses on building foundational skills, such as letter recognition, decoding, and phonemic awareness. As a child gets older and progresses through elementary school, they learn to read fluently, comprehend texts, and develop a bigger vocabulary. In middle school and high school, developmental reading involves learning more sophisticated comprehension strategies, such as analyzing the purpose and point of view of an author, making connections between different ideas and texts, etc. A student may also be introduced to literary devices like symbolism and metaphor.
The goal of developmental reading is to help a student become a confident, effective, and fluent reader. If your child is struggling with reading, no matter their age, we can help at Academic Associates Learning Center.
