At Academic Associates Learning Center, our reading program is the heart of what we do. We are passionate about empowering students to be better readers, and we pride ourselves on our one-of-a-kind, systematic reading program, which utilizes a method developed to work in harmony with the brain. Our brains aren’t pre-wired to read, so our structured approach is especially beneficial for new or struggling readers.
There are lots of reading programs out there, so you may wonder, what makes ours any different?
- It’s based on original research. Our reading program was developed by Cliff Ponder, a teacher and principal who conducted extensive research to create our step-by-step method of teaching reading. Our program is 30 years in the making and includes the five essential components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
- It’s one-on-one. Individual instruction between the teacher and student sets our reading program apart from most others. This style of teaching allows the teacher to personalize lessons and work on each student’s specific needs or goals.
- It’s effective for many different readers. Our reading program is for beginning readers, struggling readers of any age, students with disabilities, and readers who want to improve their skills and grow in confidence. Our students may all have different starting points, but we can provide free assessments to monitor their growth.
